 Parrilla Pena

Rodríguez Peña 682, Centro, Buenos Aires 4371 5643

We were finishing up a photo shoot with Hamish (lover of good food) and Janny, and were ready to eat a cow. Disappointingly the parrilla we were planning to go, El Obrero was closed Sunday. Frustrated, we quickly glanced through Pick Up The Fork’s recommendations picking the nearest place- Parrilla Pena. Starving and violent were the perfect descriptions when we entered this parrilla and happily it delivered with satisfying portions of good meat and fist size empanadas. Happy belly, all thanks to Allie.

Restaurant Critic

This small compact place has nothing to rave about when it comes to ambiance, though what really matters are the drooling open grill in the front and the quick friendly service. They got my two thumbs up the moment the fist size empanadas appeared on the table before I even got comfortable in my chair- who cares about the little touches and the beautiful interior when a jar of chimichurri and fried up goodness are thrown down in front of four hungry people?

Food Critic

Did I say that the complimentary empanada was the highlight of the meal? It was fried, big, juicy and very satisfying. On top of that, we had a great piece of bife de chorizo, always love a nicely grilled mollejas, french fries, two bottles of wine, and the rest became a blur as the meal devoured all my mental alertness. The bill came down to 70 pesos ($18) per person, affordable with the mountain of food we ordered. A great place to go with friends who love meat, don’t care about ambiance, and love hearty portions.

Pros

  • empanada
  • quick and good service
  • good meat
  • affordable
  • generous portion
Cons
  • okay ambiance
  • okay french fries
